In addition to the major divisions, trophies are awarded for some special divisions. The River to River Relay offers 12 special divisions. These special divisions are informal, and are not meant to be taken too seriously. In order to qualify, a team need only declare that it comes reasonably close to meeting the qualifications.

Academic

Any team affiliated with a school, college, university, or other center of learning.

Armed Forces

Any team that is instrumental in the nation’s defense.

City and County

Any team that claims to represent the city or county included in the team’s name.

Civil Service

Any team affiliated with a federal, state, or municipal government agency.

Culinary

Open to any team that claims special culinary skills, ….and is willing to prove it.

Ecclesiastical

Any team affiliated with a church or other religious group.

Financial Services

Any team associated with banks, insurance, stock brokers, etc.

Happy Families

Every team member must be related in some way to another team member.

Health and Medical

Any team affiliated with a health agency, hospital, or other medical group.

Legal

Any team affiliated with a law firm or other legal group.

Old Friends

Team members that have run together for at least four years.

Running Club

Any team consisting of members of the same running club.
